SASCO demands action on the senseless murder of one of our own

5 July 2013

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) is outraged at the cold-blooded murder of Dichaba Mafube-a promising 2nd year accounting student at the University of North West. The energetic and promising young leader was murdered on Wednesday apparently by a group of six policemen on his way home in Sebokeng, Gauteng. There was no reason whatsoever for the South African Police Service (SAPS) to murder an innocent and harmless student who was driving alone in his car. We totally reject the sinister justification by the six murderers that they murdered Mafube as he tried to speed-off.

SASCO sends its most sincere condolences to the Mafube family during this very difficult time. We also wish the mother of Mafube a speedy recovery who was admitted at a hospital after hearing of the cold-blood murder of her beloved son. We call on the relevant government agencies to fast track their investigation so that the six murderers are urgently brought to book and sentenced. We are deeply concerned at the apparent determination on the part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) to militarise our democratic state as led by the ANC. We will continue to condemn and fight against the hasty despotism of the SAPS who believe they are a law unto themselves.
