SASCO calls for the immediate release of students' results in FET colleges

22 May 2013

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) calls for the immediate release of the results for students in the Further Education and Training (FET) colleges. Our students have been waiting, for the past two weeks, for the release of their tri-semester results by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DhET). This regrettable delay constitutes a vicious attack on the future of the working class and poor child.

The inability by the DhET to release the results has demoralised many students and some have since dropped out. We note with concern that students are currently registering for the next level despite the fact that they do not know how they performed in the previous level. Some students may be deregistered from courses they are registering now depending on the outcome of their delayed results. This is a wrong way of running our FET colleges.

Students are called upon to intensify mass mobilisation and action as this is the one and only language that the DhET understands. FET colleges cannot continue to be institutions of choice unless government begins to practically take this sector seriously. Dr. Bonginkosi Nzimande has a non-negotiable duty to provide sound leadership in resolving this debacle. We are deeply disappointed at this failure by the DhET under the leadership of Dr. Bonginkosi Nzimande.
