The South African Students Congress (SASCO) received with joy the news about the election of our Home Affairs minister and a seasoned cadre of the ANC as the Chairperson of the AU Commission in the recent summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
We are confident that comrade Dr. Dlamini-Zuma will proceed with the good work she has always been doing for the people of the country especially the poorest of the poor. We believe that as one of the finest cadres of the revolutionary movement Dr Dlamini-Zuma will contribute positively to resolving the socio-economic challenges faced by Africans all over the continent.
Our congratulations also go to the Presidency of South Africa and the department of International relations and co-operation for sterling work done in delivering the first female chair of the commission in the 49 years of its history. We view this as a good step in dealing with gender stereotypes in our society.
Our gratitude also goes to African states which were confident enough to vote for her as the chairperson. We also wish to express our words of appreciation to SADC countries in spearheading the political process which resulted in the election of comrade Dr. Dlamini-Zuma as chair of the Commission. We wish comrade Dr. Dlamini-Zuma all the best in her new responsibility.
