South African Students Congress

SASCO salutes the YCLSA on its 90th Anniversary

27 May 2012

The South African Students Congress (SASCO) joins all progressive forces in wishing the YCLSA a happy 90th anniversary. We salute the contribution made by young communists in the struggle for liberation of our country. Communists have been the most reliable force in the struggles of the working class and the poor.

As we celebrate the anniversary of the YCLSA we should celebrate the lives of some of the finest cadres produced by this organisation. Some of these dedicated cadres have abandoned white privilege in the interest of the oppressed majority. We celebrate the leadership role of the communists in leading the struggles of the working class youth.

As we celebrate the 90th anniversary we appeal to the Young Communist League to provide leadership to the contemporary struggles of the working class youth in the country and lead us to a decisive destruction of capitalism and building of socialism. We appeal to the YCLSA to lead struggles against poor service delivery, corruption, poverty, inequality, underdevelopment, diseases and unemployment.

The YCLSA must continue to raise the plight of women; who are still suffering from patriarchal power relations. The YCLSA must be found among struggling students who are campaigning for free quality education. It must be present when the working class is up in arms against private ownership of means of production. The YCL presence must be felt in the struggle for nationalisation of strategic sectors of the economy as a step towards the socialisation of means of production.

We salute the YCLSA and wish it more organisational strength in leading the struggles of the working class youth against the challenges brought about by the capitalist social disorder.
