We are delighted and joyful as the South African Students Congress that we have emerged victorious against the coalition led by the ANYCL and YCL, at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal Howard College and Pietermaritzburg campuses. Students have heeded the call we made on Wednesday that they should do all in their capacity to root out these wolves dressed in sheepskin, who want to accumulate using SRC's as a platform for self-enrichment. These election results are a vindication that students in UKZN are tired of seeing the SRC turn into an accumulation vehicle.
We call on the ANCYL and the YCL to learn a lesson from these defeats at the hands of SASCO and find it in themselves to change their ways. We are not happy that we were forced to contest with our alliance partners and embarrass them in this manner. We have always sought to find other means of engaging with these PYA structures but we were left with no choice. Students, that know SASCO, YCL and the ANCYL to belong together were gobsmacked when they say the YCL and ANCYL contesting against SASCO during these SRC elections which is something they had never seen or imagined before.
We hope these election results will fix the matter firmly in the eyes of those that suggest: "SASCO is unpopular" that this is nothing but a fulmination of their imagination and a fallacy to justify their unfounded contestation. We call on our SRC deployees to respect the will of students and do all in their capacity in the service of their student population. This proves once and for all that SASCO is still a darling of students. SASCO continues to lead.
