The South African Students' Congress held its 13th National Congress from the 7th to 11th December 2005 at the University of Limpompo, Turfloop Campus, Polokwane. The National Congress is the highest decision making body of SASCO and its mandate includes electing the national leadership of the organisation.
Hundreds of delegates from all institutions of higher education, further education and training, agricultural and nursing colleges gathered to atteng the Congress. Guests from fraternal organisations both local and international were in attendance as well, including officials from the Department of Education.
This gathering, hailed as the biggest students' assembly in the continent, reviewed the work that had been done by the organisation since the 12th National Congress, made honest analysis of the current challenges, reviewed the constitution and various policies of the organisation, and adopted broad resolutions.
The National Executive Committee was elected. The new NEC members are:
